The
framing rough
opening size is the size of the Attic Lift being installed. For
example:
-
The 25" by 54" model requires a rough
opening of 25" by 54"
-
The 3'0 by 6'0
Hallway model requires a rough opening of 36" by 72"
framed opening.
-
The 4'0 by 4'0 model requires a rough
opening of 48" by 48" framed opening.
-
The 4'0 by 6'0 Garage model requires a rough opening
of 48" by 72" framed opening.
It is very important to
make sure that the opening is square.
It is necessary the attic or storage area be framed for the
appropriate load.
The builder, Architect, or Engineer should
decide and have installed the correct sizing of beams and joists
for each individual application. |
The
Attic Lift
requires certain specific
framing requirements for installation.
They are as follows:
-
The rough opening should be bordered by a minimum
of 3" of framing thickness. This can be a double 2x beam, a
laminated beam, or some other material specified by your builder.
This thickness is necessary to give a platform area for the upright
posts to be fastened.
-
At each corner of the rough opening, fasten a
common 4 by 4 fastening plate using screws.
-
In the plate, stand and level common 4 by 4 posts
and fasten into the roof framing.
-
It will be very rare for the posts to line up
alongside a roof joist and be level, so use the appropriate blocking
material during this installation.
-
It is the homeowner/builders
responsibility to make sure there are no obstructions around or
above the hole, especially by plumbers, heating and air conditioning
or electrician companies.
The
Attic Lift
can also be installed in many other
building materials such as steel framing as long as the rough opening
framing and the upright wood post are the same. |
